Urban League’s Spring Job Fair Drew Major Employers in Broward County
The Urban League of Broward County hosted the Spring Job Fair on March 16 featuring some of Broward County’s largest employers.
Organized with Broward College, the job fair at the Urban League’s Fort Lauderdale headquarters attracted hundreds of local residents seeking jobs with major companies such as Fed Ex, Hilton Hotels, Macy’s, and Broward Health. Recruiters conducted one-on-one interviews with job applicants.
In all, more than 15 companies participated in the job fair from 10am-2pm at the Urban League office on 560 NW 27 Avenue in Fort Lauderdale.
The job fair was part of the Urban League of Broward County’s employment services, which serve the community with a variety of programs to improve the economic stability of individuals and families and help them meet basic needs. One such program (Center for Working Families) bundles employment, income/work supports, and asset building through a coaching model, while another (TAACCCT Program) provides education, job training, job placement and support to adults 18 years or older.
“To break the cycle of poverty, it’s vital for individuals and families to gain employment skills and have opportunities to find decent jobs,” said Germaine Smith-Baugh, president and CEO of Urban League of Broward County. “Our Spring Job Fair is a valuable resource in our community for our residents to meet recruiters, get interviewed, and ultimately be offered jobs at leading employers in Broward County.”
